A marubozu is an extreme full body candle with little or no wick. It shows price moving strongly from open to close with very little rejection.
At A Glance
- Name: Marubozu
- Category: Momentum And Continuation Candles
- Type: Momentum
- Number of candles: 1 candle
- Typical context: During strong directional movement.
How To Identify It
- Body: Large body that spans almost the full candle range.
- Wicks: Very small or no upper and lower wicks.
- Relationship: The single candle is read by how little price moved away from the open-close body.
Look for a large body and almost no visible wick on either end. The candle should look controlled from one side of the range to the other.
Context
Marubozu candles are easiest to study when they stand out from recent candles and appear with range expansion.
A marubozu matters most around breakouts, breakdowns, reclaims, or strong continuation moves. After a very extended run, it can also be a sign of emotional late pressure.
What It Shows
The candle shows one-sided control. Buyers or sellers pushed through the candle without much visible rejection before the close.
What To Watch Next
Watch whether price holds the marubozu body or quickly reverses through it. A strong body should not be erased casually if the move is still clean.
The read weakens if the candle is immediately engulfed the other way. That means the one-sided control disappeared quickly.
Common Confusion
A full body candle can still have small wicks. A marubozu is cleaner and more extreme.
Key Takeaway
A marubozu shows strong control with little wick rejection. The key follow-up is whether that control holds after the candle closes.
